This week we are focusing on communication. Communication is not a one-way process. It requires, at a minimum, someone to give a message and someone to receive it. Listening and hearing however are not the same thing. Listening is about more than just hearing what someone has to say, it is an active process in which you have to understand what they mean and unearth how they feel.
Today’s spotlight has some tips for you to try out to improve your listening skills.
Can you recall a time when you heard someone and a time when you listened to someone? How was your behaviour different between the two situations? Which of these tools did you use to make sure you were actively listening?
