Sheila Durie

Southern Scotland

Sheila has a varied background in social enterprise development and management. She has set up and managed numerous social enterprises, as well as maintaining her self-employed role as a business and impact measurement consultant.

Since the 1990s, Sheila had successfully started and managed social enterprises through Forth Sector, joining the Social Enterprise Academy as an Associate Tutor when it began in 2004. Since then, she has learnt a lot, strengthening her skills of reflection and understanding of her own weaknesses and skills. Sheila put these to the test when she started 'At Home in East Lothian', a care at home service for older people and those living with dementia, using the potential of social enterprise to make a difference in her home area.

Sheila has delivered programmes in social enterprise development, financial management and Social Return on Investment (SROI). She has found it hugely rewarding helping others in their own social enterprise journey, Sheila hopes to combine a participative approach with sharing her own experiences and learning. She has learnt a lot from her own experiences!

Sheila has also gained a lot from Academy learners, and she is constantly amazed at the variety, ingenuity and determination of learners she meets on programmes.
