In memory of Murdoch Gatward, with his commitment to social enterprise and his passion for development in Africa, Social Enterprise Academy Africa, a partnership between the Social Enterprise Academy Scotland and Imani Development, has established the Murdoch Fund.
This Fund will provide Coaching Awards to provide valuable learning and development support to social entrepreneurs making a difference to communities in Africa.
After his time in Africa, Murdoch established the Imani office in the UK in 2003 and was the founding CEO of the Imani Development Foundation. Murdoch worked in industry in the UK before moving to Southern Sudan to manage a development project.
This led to over 27 years of development work in Eastern and Southern Africa including living and working in Tanzania, South Africa and in Malawi. Murdoch was instrumental in leading the design and implementation of SEA Africa, which has since grown to include hubs in Malawi, Rwanda and Zambia as well as in South Africa.
His contribution to the development of social enterprise and commitment to the African continent are gifts that our teams will continue to build on, and we hope that through this Coaching Award we are able to support those that are outstanding in their field and committed to making a difference in Africa.
