Both Excelling in Leadership and Leading Edge have been instrumental in supporting established Third Sector organisations across Northern Ireland.

CO3: Excelling in Leadership Residential and Leading Edge 

The Excelling in Leadership Residential is a powerful leadership experience offering the unique opportunity for Chief Officers to collaborate with one another on how to tackle the current and anticipated challenges of the Third Sector in Northern Ireland and internationally. Underpinned by the key principles of the Framework for Leadership Excellence, this intensive residential programme explores leadership theories and applies them to live issues through action learning and the adoption of new leadership practices. Built on the values of the Third Sector and focussed on delivering outcomes, this programme supports leaders as they deal with a range of staff, client and stakeholder expectations and plan for the future. 

It is valuable and important time for any leader and highly worthwhile. The tutor is excellent the programme content is just right. For me the space and time to think and reflect is vital for anyone in a leadership role. In this sector we are often resource poor and as a result we spin too many plates and we rarely have the luxury to stop, reflect and make necessary changes –this programme enabled me to do just that and it has helped enormously. You need to commit to using the learning and using the feedback to make changes once the programme ends –the peer support groups and the training materials help you to do that.

Leading Edge 

Leading Edge is for senior leaders, who are primed to become the Chief Executives of tomorrow. Succession planning and investing in the next generation of Chief Executives is vital if the sector is to thrive. Designed by the sector for the sector, this programme provides protected space and support to build leadership skills in line with live issues and challenges. Delivered with an interactive approach, senior leaders work together and learn from each other as they engage with different theories and leadership themes. This is a powerful and transformational learning experience. 

These programmes both focus on leadership development, as well as the strengthening of a strong community of practice across the Sector. They create a ‘high safety / high challenge’ environment which is essential for allowing leaders to come together and explore the growth and strategy of their organisations, particularly in challenging times.
